The Minister for Education has announced that Murrumburrah High School is one of seven lighthouse schools in the state for Agriculture and Primary Industries. The establishment of these lighthouse schools is part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Review into Agricultural Education and Training in NSW, completed by Professor Jim Pratley.
The role of these lighthouse schools is to:
· Demonstrate exemplary teaching and learningto best position Agricultural education in the 21stcentury
· Model best practice
· Mentor final year teacher training students and early career teachers of Agriculture
· Clearly articulate a vision that can inform practice and future initiatives
· Demonstrate flexible and effective approaches to student engagement
· Show evidence of the use of high quality resources and skills
· Develop effective partnerships with local farms, businesses, TAFE and universities
· Demonstrate the capacity to lead a community of practice in the teaching of Agriculture and Primary Industries
· Share and disseminate all aspects of being a lighthouse school.
It is a great thing that Murrumburrah High School has been recognised as a lighthouse school – congratulations must go to the staff, students and school community for the effort that has been put into the program over the years. Well done.
