Murrumburrah High School teachers leading the way...

24 May 2019

Murrumburrah High School teachers are leading the way in Educational Leadership. Teachers Jan Young, Adrienne Beck and Lee Hyland are highly trained, experienced and well respected teachers within the local community but also by the wider educational community.

The NSW Department of Education identifies Murrumburrah High School as a Lighthouse School for agricultural education. Lighthouse schools are chosen as they support exemplary practice in curriculum delivery, student engagement and career promotion in Agriculture and Primary Industries. As the MHS representative for this program, Jan Young has been involved in mentoring teachers across NSW, most recently Yass High School, Kingswood High School and Tumut High School. She is currently in the process of producing the sample program for the new Stage 5 syllabus for Agriculture Technology for the NSW Department of Education. She has demonstrated that she is a leader in her field.

Adrienne Beck is the president of a branch of the English Teachers Association which provides professional support to regional high schools and is committed to stimulating teaching and learning in English. This was particularly important with the introduction of the new HSC in English which will be first examined in 2019. Teachers from Murumburrah, Young, Yass, Junee, Temora and Cootamundra meet routinely to workshop ideas, share resources and collaborate on assessment tasks.

Lee Hyland is the secretary of the Mathematical Association of NSW (MANSW), which is a professional association of mathematics educators that is dedicated to improving the quality of mathematics education and learning throughout NEW South Wales. In this role, she is on the forefront of Mathematical education in NSW including syllabus and curriculum development, teacher professional development, and educational policy development. Lee is coordinating a conference this weekend to be held in Wagga Wagga, with the internationally renowned mathematician Eddie Woo, who is the keynote speaker at the event.
