Extension English Students travel to Sydney for HSC Study Day

24 May 2019

On Sunday 19th May four senior extension English students travelled to Sydney with their teachers to attend an HSC Study Day put on by the English Teacher’s Association. The extension English course is one of the new HSC courses that are being examined for the first time in 2019.

All students attended a session on the common module that focused on the creation of literary worlds. Examine such movements as Romanticism, Realism and Modernism, students are required to develop their own pieces of writing that seek to recreate these times, or to take lessons from these movements to create their own world in words.

Year 12 students, Elizabeth Shorrock and Riley Southwell, attended a presentation on their elective Worlds of Upheaval which looks at the way in which writers develop pieces of literature in response to the times in which they live. Their main text is the famous Romantic/ gothic text Frankenstein.

Year 11 students, Maria Raptis and Natalya Kelly, attended a presentation on the elective they will study called Reimagined worlds which looks at the way in which writers employ their imaginations to create weird and wonderful worlds. Their key text will be Gulliver’s Travels.

A day trip to Sydney that was very worthwhile and informative.
