Murrumburrah High School spent 3 days at the Canberra show last week parading 5 head of steers and heifers. The 20 students had a busy schedule after arriving Wednesday morning to the showgrounds. Washing of the cattle started the day followed up by all students who were 15 years and younger entering the parading ring for a paraders’ competition.
Successful in the ring were Jack Allen – Murrumburrah Public School (8 years) placing 2nd. Oscar Phillis placing 4th. In the 13 – 14yrs, this competition was fierce and our students stood up to the battle and paraded well on the day. Emma Collins from Hennessy paraded with us with a fresh steer who had not been in the ring before. That takes a far bit of courage.
The 15 years hit the ring with Riley Arabin in the first heat with Chad Webster, Jordan Phelan, Darcy Fogg and Hayley Chesworth following in successive heats. Riley Arabin placed 3rd. Pizza was enjoyed by all this night.
Thursday was a much more relaxed day with only our 16’s and over to parade. Dylan Menz was first in the ring in the 16 years followed by Thomas Stone and Hannah Phillis. The steers and heifers were judged in the afternoon with Milong Wal placing 3rd, Murrumburrah Boof placing 3rd and heifers placing 3rd with Murrumburrah Nancy and Weethalle Elizabeth.
David Young kindly picked up the cattle to take them back to school and students returned to their accommodation at Canberra Park which was very clean, accessible but reminded students and staff of a correctional facility…..It kept them all well behaved. They all enjoyed a night out in Dickson for dinner.
Junior Judging on Friday went very well with 4 of our students placing in their age divisions.
Hannah Phillis placed 4th in the senior division, Tom Stone placed 4th in the 16 years. Darcy Fogg placed 2nd in the 15 years and Emma Collins placed 3rd in the 15 years. After Junior Judging the team packed up for the ride home.
Well done Murrumburrah High for your outstanding efforts over the 3 days.
